Dear colleagues,
in this edition, we bring you the story of a company that grew
from a small side project into one of the major label converters
on its national market. What began as a modest operation has
since become a benchmark for digital label production in
Ukraine.
Read on to find out how Konica Minolta
supported this extraordinary effort.
Ribbon was founded in 2019 as small operation of nine people selling barcode scanners and thermal printers, with the intention of moving into label conversion. Today the company employs 110 people, prints approximately 240 kilometers of label material per month, and operates as one of the established players in digital printing in Ukraine.
The company's first investment in Konica Minolta equipment came in 2020, when growing customer demand for color roll printing led Ribbon to acquire an AccurioLabel 230, the first machine of its kind installed in Ukraine, following a demonstration at the Kyiv showroom. Monthly output rose from 2 kilometers in the first month to a recorded 118 kilometers. The subsequent onset of the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to further growth, as customers moved away from stockpiling labels toward the flexible, print-as-needed model that digital printing supports.
As production volumes increased, Ribbon added an MGI WEB Classic foil and varnish machine in 2024. The decision to invest in the AccurioLabel 400 followed a demonstration at the ELEC showroom in Prague, and the first unit – noted for its white-toner capability on transparent and dark substrates – was purchased in 2025.
The combined use of the AccurioLabel 400 and the MGI JetVarnish 3D WEB has generated additional value in the finished product through the synergy of the two technologies, supporting continued growth in production. This growth, along with the company's satisfaction with the first AccurioLabel 400, informed the decision to purchase a second unit in 2026. Konica Minolta equipment now covers the full scope of Ribbon's production, and the company relies exclusively on these devices, operating two AccurioLabel 400 machines alongside its varnish and foiling equipment to serve clients in the food, cosmetics, logistics, and light industry sectors.
Ribbon attributes part of its results to the working relationship with Konica Minolta, referencing the training, testing, and consultation provided after each purchase. The company also appreciates the after-sales support supplied by ELEC, which it credits with helping resolve production issues as they arise. The business has grown consistently year on year, and in 2025 Forbes Ukraine included Ribbon on its list of the 250 most successful small and medium-sized businesses in the country.
Looking ahead, Ribbon is planning entry into the European market, with an agreement already in place to supply digital labels to Macedonia – a further step in a development built on equipment demonstrations, after-sales support, and ongoing investment.
